Most people ok with Internet retailers collecting state sales taxes
How do you feel about paying state sales taxes on Internet purchases? With cash-strapped states increasingly aggressive about trying to collect sales taxes from online retailers such as Amazon, the issue may not be solved until Congress steps in and clarifies matters.
An overwhelming 86% of respondents to a national survey by the the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) feel it would be far easier to pay sales tax on online purchases at the point-of-purchase.

Record number of online retailers achieve high satisfaction scores
A record 36 of the top 100 online retailers achieve the “threshold for excellence” on the annual Top 100 E-Retail Satisfaction Index from customer experience analytics firm
ForeSee
, with Amazon setting the standard.
Scores of 80 or higher on ForeSee’s 100-point scale are considered superior customer satisfaction performances. In 2010 and 2011, 28 websites achieved this distinction, while in 2009 only six websites cleared the mark. The Index in aggregate plateaus, scoring 78 for a third consecutive year.

Facebook tops engagement among smartphone users
Facebook engages more smartphone users than any other media property, most of it (80 percent) via apps. Twitter, which comes in at 11th on the number of unique visitors it reaches on smartphones, is even more app dependent (96.5 percent). So says comScore’s Mobile Metrix 2.0 service.
Google Sites ranked as the top property with nearly 94 million unique visitors, representing 96.9 percent of the mobile audience. Facebook ranked second with 78.0 million visitors (80.4 percent reach), followed by Yahoo! Sites with 66.2 million visitors (68.2 percent reach) and Amazon Sites 44.0 million visitors (45.4 percent reach).

New technologies leading states to tax firms for “economic presence”
States once believed that a corporation needed a physical presence within their borders before it could be subject to an income-based tax or sales tax, but many are shifting to a standard based on “economic presence.”
Amazon and other online companies have fought highly public battles with states over these tax issues. A powerful “Main Street” lobbying effort has fought to get them on equal footing with brick & mortar stores in terms of collecting state sales taxes.

has released its first desktop app, only a few days after the announcement of
Google Drive
. As you may already know, Amazon has been giving 5GB of free storage since a year ago, but there’s no app available to make Cloud Drive easier to use from the desktop unlike many other cloud storage apps that allow you to access and edit files directly from your file folder.
